Is it their platform, or yours?

I’ve been bopping around the Internet during rest periods while working on my new book. I found the list below to be very interesting and worth repeating. You’ll find it in its entirety at the following web site: http://www.teaparty-platform.com/

What I found intriguing is that most of the ten items below could be subscribed to by a very large majority of Americans. That fact, it seems to me, is the very reason so many of the intrenched Washington, DC, politicians and special interest groups–Republicans and Democrats alike–are working so hard to discredit the Taxed Enough Already Party people.

The comment with each item is taken directly from the web site and none have been edited.

“Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.” — Abraham Lincoln

Preamble: The Tea Party Movement is an all-inclusive American grassroots movement with the belief that everyone is created equal and deserves an equal opportunity to thrive in these United States where they may “pursue life, liberty and happiness” as stated in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.

No one is excluded from participation in the Tea Party Movement. Everyone is welcomed to join in seeking to achieve the Tea Party Movement goals, which are as follows:

Ten Core Beliefs of the Modern-Day Tea Party Movement:

“1. Eliminate Excessive Taxes – Excessively high taxes are a burden for those exercising their personal liberty to work hard and prosper as afforded by the Constitution. A fiscally responsible government protects the freedom of its citizens to enjoy the fruits of their own labor without interference from a government that has exceeded its necessary size, scope and reach into the lives of its citizens.

    2. Eliminate the National Debt – By implementing fiscally conservative policies at all levels of government, progress can be made toward eliminating the U.S. National Debt. Massive increases in the National Debt have created and continue to create a huge burden for the next generation of Americans, thus imperiling the country’s short-term and long-term economic health and prosperity.

    3. Eliminate Deficit Spending – All deficit spending must be eliminated immediately. We insist that government representatives at all levels maintain a fiscally responsible budget and balance the books as would be expected of any American business.

    4. Protect Free Markets – America’s free enterprise system allows businesses to thrive as they compete in the open marketplace and strive toward ever better services and products. Allowing free markets to prosper unfettered by government interference is what propelled this country to greatness with an enduring belief in the industriousness and innovations of the populace.

    5. Abide by the Constitution of the United States – The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land and must be adhered to without exception at all levels of government. This includes the Bill of Rights and other Amendments to the U.S. Constitution and their provisions designed to protect states’ rights and individual liberties.

    6. Promote Civic Responsibility – Citizen involvement at the grassroots level allows the voice of the American people to be heard and directs the political behaviors of our representatives at both the local and national level so they, in turn, may be most effective in working to preserve the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of this country’s citizens.

    7. Reduce the Overall Size of Government – A bloated bureaucracy creates wasteful spending that plagues our government. Reducing the overall size, scope and reach of government at both local and national levels will help to eliminate inefficiencies that result in deficit spending which adds to our country’s debt.

    8. Believe in the People – The American people, given their guaranteed freedoms, will thrive in a democratic, capitalist environment which allows individuals to strive toward ever greater achievements, innovations and the efficient production of needed and valued goods and services.

    9. Avoid the Pitfalls of Politics – American politics is burdened by big money from lobbyists and special interests with an undue influence on the peoples’ representatives. The Tea Party movement is seen as a threat to the entrenched political parties and thus is the continual target of smear campaigns and misrepresentation of its ideals. We choose not to respond to these attacks except to strongly and explicitly disavow any and all hate speech, any and all violence as well as insinuations of violence, and any and all extreme and fringe elements that bring discredit to the Tea Party Movement. We are a peaceful movement and respect other’s opinions and views even though they do not agree with our own. We stand by the Tea Party beliefs and goals and choose to focus our energies on ensuring that our government representatives do the same.

    10. Maintain Local Independence – The strength and resilience of a grassroots movement is the ability of citizens at the local level to determine their own platforms, agendas and priorities free of an overriding central leadership. Exercising the clearly stated message of the Tea Party movement by its nature involves discourse about which policies and candidates best hold to our stated principles, and these various opinions should flourish and evolve at the local level.”

“Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories.” –Samuel Adams, 1781

“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it.” –Abraham Lincoln

Aesop’s The Four Oxen and the Lion…

“A lion used to prowl about a field in which Four Oxen used to dwell. Many a time he tried to attack them; but whenever he came near they turned their tails to wone another, so that whichever way he approached them he was met by the horns of one of them. At last, however, they fell a-quarrelling [sic] among themselves, and each went off to pasture alone in the separate corner of the field. Then the Lion attacked them one by one and soon made an end of all four.

United we stand, divided we fall.” — Aesop Fable

It seems to me the above fable can easily be applied to this moment in time in America. Substitute the following names for the four oxen in the above: Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, Liberals.

If we do not cease choosing up sides, dividing ourselves into smaller groups and special interests, this nation is going to fail. — D. C. “Dan” Lee

    Only for Heroes…

Re-Posting from Steve Stamper. Thought you’d like to read this…

First, take a look at the photograph below…

“I hope anyone who has military background, or is an American, will forward this.

If you are not a veteran send this to those that you know who are, or to those who may know veterans.

(The 2014 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. During this midterm election year, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested in this election. Get out and VOTE!!)

A movement has been started by our armed forces to get out othe vote in 2014. They are organizing themselves, but this can be done by all of us. The President, the Golfer in Chief, King Putt, has made the Rules of Engagement (ROE) so difficult, that our troops are often killed before they can even get permission to fight. Nothing has been done to stop our troops from being murdered by the Afghanis they are training, either.

Now, the President wants the US to sign on to the UNs International Criminal Court (ICC), which would allow the UN’s ICC to arrest and try US troops for War Crimes, without the legal protections guaranteed under US Law, and from which there is no appeal.

The President, with his Democratic control of the Senate, has nearly all the power. If the Non-Establishment Republicans, and Conservatives, can take back the Senate in 2014, our troops can once again be protected from unnecessary danger. Please consider this, and send it on to your mailing lists.

    Thank You.

Interestingly enough, when GWB was president you heard about the military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan almost daily. With Obama in the White House, the mainstream media has been strangely quiet. — More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months. This is more than the combined total of the nine years before. Thirty have died in August. During the last month, over 50 additional NATO and US servicemen have been murdered, inside jobs by those who are hired to be a force for good in Afghanistan ..

A reinforced Marine battalion is +-1.000 men.

The commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep, although he ordered the White House flag flown at half-staff for the Sikhs that were killed. There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifferent incompetence of this president.

It has taken on a dangerous tone. No one knows what to do about him, but the anger runs deep as the deaths continue with no strategic end in sight to the idiocy of this war. Obama has had 6 years to end this futile insanity, during which time he has vacationed, golfed, campaigned, golfed, attended fundraisers, golfed, vacationed, golfed and generally ignored the plight of our men and women in uniform. But, there is now a movement afoot in the armed services to launch a massive get out the vote drive against this president.

Not just current active duty types, but the National Guard, Reserves, the retired, and all other prior service members. This is no small special interest group, but many millions of veterans who can have an enormous impact on the outcome of the November election if they all respond.

The one million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state if they all show up at the polls. It might not keep another one hundred U.S. troops from dying between now and November, but a turn out to vote by the military against this heart breaking lack of leadership can make a powerful statement that hastens a change to the indifference of this shallow little man who just lets our soldiers die.”

Veterans: Please forward to your lists. High Priority!

Are you inundated by torrential rain?

    “Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
    Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The trick to this life is working through the difficult times and taking full enjoyment from the good times. Certainly more easily said than done.

It matters not that you believe your difficult times outnumber the good by a ratio of ten to one, it matters only that you pull the good times into your heart to savor them to the fullest. Many folks I know find overcoming the depression that comes with sad times nearly impossible to manage. No one said this life would be easy.

Again, the trick is to garner full enjoyment from the good so that those moments overshadow the bad.

I find it much easier when the good times are shared with friends and close loved ones. People in your life can make all the difference in the world, even though your friend may be far away. Do you have a pen, envelope, and postage stamp? Use them. Remember “pen pals” when we were kids? Get back to it for more enjoyment in your daily life.

Finally, I find comfort in my religious strength. Don’t ignore your faith when you need it most, but embrace it especially when you don’t. — D. C. “Dan” Lee. http://www.dannyboystories.com
