Disappearing red line.

Do you remember those double edged razor blades of yesteryear? The Internet, often called the Information Highway, is a similar double-edged avenue. The Internet provides an exciting and informative instrument to find data, products, news, and much more. However, the Internet also makes it much easier for the unscrupulous to steal your identity and rob your assets.

The Internet is not always reliable in terms of finding truth. Care, though, can reveal much to us. Such is the case with our highest elected official, the President of the United States.

Every citizen should hesitate pointing fingers toward the President. After all, the office itself deserves respect. At least, that’s the way I feel.

It pains me to say any President lies, but Barack Obama does! Further, in my view, he says what he thinks he has to say at the time, twisting whatever facts are present.

Recently, the President said this (9/4/13) about the Syrian chemical weapon situation: “I didn’t set a red line, the world set a red line. My credibility’s not on the line. The international community’s credibility is on the line. And America and Congress’s credibility’s on the line.”

Who is he kidding?

He is what Obama said a year ago during an open, publicly telebvised, press conference: “We have been very clear, to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground that a red line for us is if we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized. … We have communicated in no uncertain terms for every player in the region that that’s a red line for us…”

Is this simply an inability to recall one’s words one day to the next? Not on your tintype. I believe this is not the first situation the President has simply lied to get his way, but that does not matter much. It is equally distasteful to me the President’s own cabinet and White House officials reinforce his falsehoods.

Obama seems not to be alone in lying to the American people. It appears to be symptomatic of actions by every member of the Congress and those who make their living off the federal government. How else have we reached the point in our history where many countries in the world have made us a laughing stock?

It does not matter if you are Republican, Democrat, Liberal, or Conservative, truth should be the watchword in every government activity, and that goes for the rest of us as well. — Dan Lee, Danny Boy Stories.
